LA EZPERANZA
Asociatión de Caficultores La Esperanze (ASOCAES) is a coffee cooperative that provides a variety of services to 800 members. These services include harvest collection, a coffee mill, credit services, technical training, and negotiating contracts (to sell coffee on the national and international markets) with better prices than those offered by local middlemen. Having trained as a cooperative in 1979 and gained legal status in 1982, for the purpose of contributing to the support of the community and reducing extreme poverty in Los Cacaos.
With the formation of the fair trade organization La Esperanza, it has enabled the people and the town of Los Cacaos to sustain themselves, also to develop and secure a better future for generations to come. With La Esperanza’s leverage in the fair trade coffee market, It has allowed the community to sustain and eliminate the existence of extreme poverty occurring in many regions of underdeveloped countries, and moreover created a positive future for those left without hope.

ASOCAES/La Esperanza has identified the development of tourism as an opportunity to generate attractive jobs to help alleviate the problem of youth at risk, thereby diminishing and the number of those leaving the area. And on the other hand takes advantage of the potential of coffee growing familiar with its great potential for production of goods and services diverse social and environmental cost-effectively and sustainably.
